Simrad RS40-B fixed-mount DSC VHF Radio with integrated AIS transmitter and receiver, GPS, and wireless handset support.
Simrad RS40-B
-The RS40-B has all of the features of the RS40 which was released last year with the addition of an AIS transmitter
-Low profile design to align with style of Simrad MFD’s
-Seamless integration with a wider Simrad system through NMEA 2000 and 0183
-Built in Class B AIS Transmitter and Receiver
-Large screen with intuitive user interface
-Optional wireless handsets with inductive charging
RS40-B is the first VHF Radio to have both an AIS Receiver and Transmitter built into it. Basically, RS40-B gives the user all the benefits of an RS40 and an NAIS-500 in one product. NOTE: Two VHF antennas are needed for RS40-B, one for VHF and one for AIS. Alternatively an NSPL-500 can be used.
AIS Receiver
A dual-channel AIS receiver monitors the position of nearby AIS-equipped vessels, helping you to avoid collisions in crowded harbours and waterways.
AIS Transmitter
For the first time a VHF Radio can automatically transmit AIS information. When moving, the RS40-B will send out a transmission every 30 seconds containing important information so that vessels around you know where you are, where you’re going and how fast you’re going. Information includes:
-Speed over Ground
-Course over ground
-Vessel Name
-Vessel Callsign
-MMSI
-Vessel dimensions
RS40-B also has a “silent mode” so if you are going fishing and don’t want everyone to know where you are you can turn off transmissions temporarily. You can then disable silent mode when you are coming back into an area with a lot of traffic.
GPS Built In
To meet both DSC and AIS regulations RS40-B gives the user the option of an internal GPS antenna, located in the face of the radio, or an external GPS antenna (GPS-500) which connects directly to the rear of the radio. It is not possible to get GPS information from a networked antenna (NMEA0183/2000). This is due to AIS regulations Note: RS40-B can be used as a GPS source for other products with both NMEA0183 and 2000
Wireless Handset
Add up to two optional wireless handsets to take your radio anywhere on board. The HS40 handset was designed as an intuitive portable companion to the RS40-B. Each handset duplicates your radio’s display and controls, enabling remote access to all key functions. Having multiple stations also allows the RS40-B to double as a handy on-board intercom.
